Welcome To Earf

Opus V is finally here and that means it's time to start brewing decks and see what new strategies people come up with! With so many new cards to try, Chris Adams of the RVA Returners had to reel it in and find something that fits his playstyle, but offers him flexibility. He kept coming back to the same thing: mono Earth.

I've always wanted to try a mono earth build and ever since our most recent podcast episide i havent been able to shut up about it so what better time than now! So as Captain Steven Hiller once said...

"Welcome to Earf"

The Forwards
WoL is a new legendary for the element, and he brings a lot to the table, giving the choice of two solid effects at the start of your attack step. Specifically allowing forwards to not be targetable by EX bursts is huge.

The deck uses a lot of the tried-and-true earth forwards, but also receives a boost from the new ones, specifically Ingus. An additional 1k power is never a bad thing to have, especially when you have Yang and Ursula on the board creating pressure.

Speaking of Yang, this new version joins Guy as the bane of Ice's existence. Not being able to dull by opponents summons and abilities is a great thing to have, but he also becomes a powerhouse if you control five earth characters!

The last new forward is Gabranth, and, like the other versions, he becomes cheaper to play if you have taken damage. This guy also has the ability to negate damage dealt to you at the cost of breaking himself. This is an ability that could mean the difference between winning and losing.

Rounding out the forwards is a familiar face that we all love to hate, and that's The Emperor (editor's note: BOOOO).

The Summons
The summon choices I went with are what I feel will be safe in this new meta. Hecatonchier is there to let your big guys remove a threat, and Titan is there to protect your guys from removal.

I'm also taking advantage of the new Cockatrice summon. At 1 CP, this thing can be useful in a lot of situations.

The Backups
The backups have undergone the most changes. Mog (MOBIUS) gives you a general search card, which is fantastic for getting you the forward you need when you need it.

Miner is a new backup that is pure value from start to finish by making the break zone an extension of your hand. By discarding a backup to help pay the cost, only to get it right back from its first ability makes it a great turn one play.

Momodi giving a forward Brave for no cost is just icing on the cake for a deck that really likes not having to dull to attack.

Star Sybil allows you to search out Shantotto when things get hairy, and the ability to drop a forward at no cost is nothing to sneeze at.

I'm excited to see how Opus V shakes things up, and I think Earth is looking pretty powerful, and I urge people to give it a try!
