Friday Future #8- Jenova- SYNTHESIS

Wow, two months already of our Friday Future series. I have to admit, it’s been quite fun dipping my toes into card design. However, the main goal of this series was to focus on characters we hadn’t seen yet in cardboard form, and hopefully we’ve done a good job of doing that for you. This weeks character is one I have been thinking about doing for awhile. I know there is a chapters version, so hopefully we see one sooner or later, but I was inspired by a post yesterday on the fans page about characters we currently have (DADALUMA) that are fairly irrelevant compared to bigger names. Thanks to fellow Returner John Schreiner and Hunter Nance, I bring you Jenova SYNTHESIS!!!

Jenova SYNTHESIS

6CP Dark Forward- 8k

Category- FFVII

Job- Alien

Rarity- L

When Jenova SYNTHESIS enters the field, reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. You may add 1 card to your hand and remove the rest from game.

If Jenova SYNTHESIS is put from the field into the break zone, you may return Jenova SYNTHESIS to the battlefield dull. If you do, remove the top 2 cards from your deck from the game. Jenova SYNTHESIS enter the battlefield effect will not trigger.

So, we have already seen these “never die” effects on cards like Vanille and we know hard it can be to fight that. I wanted to continue to run this idea of continued recursion at a cost for Jenova SYNTHESIS. I thought it played well into the lore of Jenova continue to cut off pieces of itself (removing cards from your deck) until it got to it’s main goal of reaching Sephiroth (winning the game). You technically get a 8k forward for 8cp initially (pitch two cards, draw a card, remove to cards) that can then constantly come back for 4cp. Sure, the cop cost is removed from game, but the constant pressure of an 8k on the board can be too much for people to deal with at times, much like a parasitic alien lifeform devouring a planet. Ok so maybe the flavor win is stretching a little, but ultimalty it’s a cute way to represent an extremely well known character and make for a unique interaction and effect we have little to no of in the game.

Anyway, hope you folks enjoy. Tell us the characters you want to see be a luxury cardboard character in the future. Stay Classy Returners!
