Cactuar Correspondence - Weekly FFTCG Chat 12/13/18
let's talk fftcg!
Every week, there is something new to discuss and analyze in this game. In this feature, we answer your questions and respond to recent developments, new meta decks, specific cards we like or don't like -- you call it, we'll answer.
If you want to join the conversation, send us your thoughts! We would also love to hear the questions you have next week, so please shoot us a message at Facebook or on Twitter. Thanks for reading!
With Europe’s competitive tournament structure revealed, do you expect North America’s to match up in any meaningful ways?
(Note: we asked this question before Square enix’s major announcement this week)
ADAM L: Short answer is yes. I expect to get some of this but definitely not all of it. I'd be happy with 50% to 75% of it honestly. I loved everything that happened in Tim's video and I hope to see more transparency like that in the future.
CHRIS: Absolutely. I think what has been revealed for us has been mostly good. It's a big step in the right direction. Not perfect but we are on the right track.
ADAM D: To be honest, I wish the North American scene would get the support that the Japanese scene gets in terms of promotional sleeves and prizes.
Between organized play promos, Crystal Cup commemorative deck boxes, buy-a-box full art promos, and element dice, which promo items do you find most compelling and good for the game? What other things should FFTCG consider?
ADAM L: I've been a fan of all the stuff they have been giving us. I'd like to just see more promos honestly. Maybe like Chris mentioned earlier a stacker type promo would be awesome. I just hope that they make certain promotional items more attainable to all those who play the game alot.
CHRIS: I think the full art promos are the way to go hands down. They are really eye catching and are the kind of things that can hook a potential new player.
ADAM D: The Element Dice are probably my favorite, but the buy-a-box promo put this last set over the top for me. I’m looking forward to distribution cleaning up their act a bit around future buy-a-box promos, though.
Has Sin been overhyped?
ADAM L: Depends on how hyped you were on the card. If people thought he was gonna just go in every deck then yes. I don't think he was overhyped though. Prior to the bans it was pretty hard to pay 9 cp cards at all outside of maybe a Water deck. I've been playing him as a 1 of in certain decks post ban to pretty decent success. I think the biggest thing is that he also wipes out monsters too. If you are able to hit an Earth/Wind board with 2 Cactuars on it, it can be back breaking for them.
CHRIS: Not at all. I think it's a good card but doesn't see a huge amount of play...yet…
ADAM D: I always thought the card was too expensive to be worth it, and felt comparisons to Nidhogg were too simple. I am not saying the card isn’t good or powerful, but it hasn’t been the auto-inclusion “board wipe in any element” people were assuming it might be.
What are you brewing with right now that you think might be competitive?
ADAM L: I've been brewing a new Tri-Color Monster deck but it's probably not the 3 colors you think it is. I still have to test a whole lot to see whats viable in it. My maybe pile of cards is very big right now but I feel like I might be on to something.
CHRIS: Well right now I'm working on getting Ol’ Reliable (Fire Ice FFVI) back in fighting shape.
ADAM D: I’m looking at Gadot + Aigis in Fire and Lightning, and I think something cool might be there.
OTHER THAN kATE pERRY, which celebrity do you want to see in a FF game?
ADAM L: Uhhh. Honestly I can't think of one. I'm not a huge fan of celebrities just being in the game as themselves.
CHRIS: One celebrity I'd like to see in a final fantasy game? But I think I would choose Idris Elba. Imagine that guy decked out in full warrior of light attire!
ADAM D: Gunna go deep here and say Toby Huss. He played every other role in King of the Hill, so he has the voice for it, and he played a killer Artie, The Strongest Man in the World from Pete and Pete, so he has the mystique.
